Dr. Carole Ammann, PhD, is a postdoctoral researcher with an interdisciplinary background in social anthropology and African studies. Her specialisation is in the anthropology of gender with a specific focus on femininities, masculinities, and intersectionality. She has conducted extensive ethnographic fieldwork in Guinea, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
Curricum Vitae
Carole Ammann has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Geography at the University of Bern, the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) at the University of Amsterdam, and the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Lucerne. She received her PhD in social anthropology at the University of Basel, where she wrote an ethnographic dissertation entitled ‘Women, Agency, and the State in Guinea: Silent Politics’, that has been published as an open-access monographcall_made in 2020 by Routledge. Her work has been published in international journals such as Medical Anthropology, Gender, Place & Culture, Urban Forum, and International Development Policy.
Carole Ammann has joined the Chair of Spatial Development and Urban Policy SPUR (Prof. Dr. David Kaufmann) as a postdoctoral researcher where she is responsible for the project ‘The COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for urban essential workers’. The project will retrospectively examine the experiences, struggles, and policy demands of non-healthcare urban essential workers (such as public transportation drivers, day care personnel, urban cleaning workers, and shop clerks) during the pandemic in Swiss cities.
