STL – Spatial Transformation Laboratories
Today, urban development means spatial transformation!
The Spatial Transformation Laboratories (STL) address the need for practical, conceptual and theoretical knowledge in the field of inward development, redensification and the transformation of already dense urban landscapes. We focus on the interplay between research and practice as well as the exploration of new methods in the fields of spatial design, civic tech, big data, artificial intelligence and participation. Furthermore, we provide and develop the teaching activities in the fields of spatial planning and urban transformation.
Our shared aims are focused on:
- Developing an inter-disciplinary und multi-faceted approach to understanding, framing, delivering and monitoring sustainable transformation in urban and spatial systems;
- Developing methods, policies and tools to assist in spatial transformation processes which can be transferred into various contexts in practice;
- Critical evaluation and advancement of contemporary academic theories and practical methods in the field of spatial transformation.
